I just recently got into the Vampire Academy series after watching the movie with my mom. I absolutely fell in love the character of Rose and how the actress portrayed her: a spicy, sassy, unafraid girl who was ready for anything thrown at her. And when the movie ended I found myself wanting more of the story, and because of that I decided to skip to the second book in the series. To my surprise there a mini recap before the second story started…and for someone just jumping into the series I found that very helpful. The story is narrated by Rose and I think this is one of the reasons that I enjoy the books so much; because Rose has such an eccentric personality that the author really incorporations into the narration and book. These books have been around for a while and the movie came out sometime last year, I believe, but I still find these books extremely well written and interesting. These books would appeal to any fantasy lover and readers of Twilight and other vampire novels. The series doesn’t necessarily focus on a love story though there are aspects of love between the different characters however, to me, the main focus of the books is the bond of friendship between the two main characters, Rose and Lissa, and how these two girls will do anything to protect one another. Therefore I’d give this book 5/5 stars and look forward to reading the next book in the series. Stay tuned for the next book review, as I am reading the third book in the series, and also be on the lookout for a bonus book review to be up within the next few weeks.
When the Strigoi strike again, the Moroi feel threatened and helpless against the growing power threat. Because of this, the guardians and staff at St. Vladimir’s decide that the best way to keep their students safe is to mandate a Christmas break ski trip; in order to keep watch on all the Moroi vampires. However with all the Moroi concentrated in one area, the Strigoi have a better chance at striking again. And when they do Rose and her friends begin to wonder how safe they really are and what they could do to stop the attacks and keep their Moroi friends safe, especially Lissa. That’s when Mason, one of Rose’s good friends, runs off with Eddie and Mia in attempts to stop the Strigoi. But with so many Strigoi lurking in the area will Rose, Mason, Eddie, and Mia be able to defeat the deadliest of vampires? Or will they to end up dead like so many other Moroi and guardians? Now it’s up to Rose to save Mason and her friends before they all end up dead or worse Strigoi forever.
