Furthermore, my goal for next week will be to have read another 50 pages in Delirium. I will also be in contact with my mentor to talk about editing and revising my review for The Book Thief. I hope to have this done after Thanksgiving. Another thing I have to discuss with my mentor is if a blog will be accessible to the audience I am targeting. I've decided that a blog would be easier to create to post my book reviews on but, I am unsure if this will allow for the easy access I want my readers to have. On a last note, I will continue reading Delirium over Thanksgiving break.
After finishing The Book Thief last week, I spent my Friday 20 Time writing the review. It was a lot harder than the first book review I wrote because The Book Thief had a much more complex plot and conflicts. The problem I kept running into, was whether or not I was including the right or wrong information within the review. My goal is to have well written reviews that encourage other readers to read the book, not give enough information of what happens so that my readers already know what the book is about. In addition, last weekend I went to Barnes and Noble and brought my next book. It is called Delirium by Lauren Oliver. So far, I've read 90 pages and really like the story. The book is about 17 year old Lena, who in her dystopian society cannot wait to have the procedure, that all 18 year olds undergo, that will change her life forever by taking away the ability to love. In her world, love is the reason for all the problems that societies have. Although Lena's never loved any boy throughout her life, this trait is being challenged when she meets Alex. As a result, Lena is constantly wondering of whether or not Alex has feelings for her. This is as far as I've got in the book but I think the rest of the book will be really good and I am anxious to see where the book will end because Delirium is part of a trilogy.

I finished reading The Book Thief last night. I don't think I've ever cried that much over a story before. But everything in the book could have happened, it was based on true events; the Holocaust and Hitler were real no matter how hard we wish that events so terrible didn't happen. Markus Zusak, author of The Book Thief, created a story that will warm people's hearts because of the life of Liesel, the main character, while also writing an accurate take on history. Although the ending is bitter sweet, the book combines the perfect amount of tragedy with hope and love. My favorite part from the ending of the story is the epilogue. Zusak was able to sum up the story while also leaving room for interpretation of what specifically happens to the characters. Usually, this would bother me. I want to know what exactly happens to everyone but, in The Book Thief enough is said to lead you to interpret positively.
Furthermore, there are ten parts in The Book Thief and last week I was only finishing reading part five. As a result, I cannot wait to work on the review later today. I think it is going to be a little more difficult to write compared to the review on The Elite. The Book Thief had such a complex story line that I want to include the right information but still leave out enough so people will go out and read the book. In addition, I will be talking to my mentor about The Book Thief review and what book I should read next. After reading a book so great, I hope the next one does not disappoint me. Also, on regards of how I will be publishing my book reviews I will be talking about this with my mentor and if necessary, create a survey (for people from my school and family) to see what appeals to the majority of people; a blogger account or a website. I want to make my reviews as accessible to my audience as possible and doing what pleases them is the first step. Lastly, I want to thank Evernote for sending my entire English class and myself Evernote notebooks to keep our notes in. These notebooks have super cool features that allow you to categorize your pictures with stickers that will automatically put the notes into the correct folder on Evernote. It was extremely nice of the company to give us notebooks and I recommend buying them if you are using Evernote. Last week I said my goal was to read up to part three of The Book Thief. This week, I am almost finished reading part five. The Book Thief has developed a complex conflict. When the Hubermann’s begin hiding a Jewish man in their basement, Liesel is unsure whether or not if she can trust this new man. But as the story goes on, Liesel and Max Vandenburg (the Jewish man hiding in her basement) become good friends. My favorite part of their friendship is when Max asks if Rosa Hubermann can cut his hair because it was getting long. Rosa, of course, goes into a tizzy trying to find the scissors and gets mad at her husband, Hans, for suggesting she cut Max’s hair; for she would make many mistakes. A few minutes later, Max ascends from the basement with his own pair of rusty scissors and hands them to Liesel, an eleven year old girl, telling her to “make as many mistakes as you want". In my opinion, this is a pivotal point in Max and Liesel's relationship because Max doesn't care what his hair will look like if Liesel cuts it and this strengthens their friendship.
In addition, the book is probing many questions from myself. I wonder how the it will end. Right now there is no suggestion to how far into time the plot will take place. Also, I didn't really realize until today that in the end, because this book is about the Holocaust, someone is probably going to die. The narrator has already told of one person's death but, I wonder who else could die. It makes me sad because I have become attached to the characters and couldn't bear to read about any of their deaths. Though I do have my guesses, I am now eager to finish reading this book to see how everything will end. Furthermore, with the movie adaptation of The Book Thief coming out November 15th, I also want to have completed reading the book by the time it comes to my local theater so that I may go see and compare it. Although, I am not sure how realistic this goal is. Finally, by next week I want to have finished reading part six and have a better idea of what option of web service I am going to use to post my book reviews. However, I am still torn over what to use because I have visions of how both could turn out, but I will let you know what I am using as soon as I decide! This week, I accomplished last week's goal of reading up to part three in The Book Thief. I am really enjoying reading this book. When my mentor first recommended this book, I was a little hesitate because the story centers around the Holocaust which can result in very sad and tragic events. And that is not the kind of stories I usually enjoy reading. But now that I have gotten into the book, I realize how interesting the conflict is. What also makes this book different from some of the other Holocaust themed books I have read, is that the story is about how a German girl is affected living in Nazi Germany instead of the life of a Jewish girl. This concept makes the book very interesting to me because the story is like the flip side of The Diary of Anne Frank. Furthermore, I hope to have accomplished more by next week as I continue reading The Book Thief.
In addition, I haven't made a separate blog for my book reviews. I thought that I would make another blog spot to post my reviews on but a lot of people have been telling me to use a website software called weebly.com instead. This is causing some controversy for myself because I am no longer sure which route will better to go. I think that I need to do a little more research about the weebly websites to see which will better assist me. Therefore, my goal for next week is to have finished reading part three of The Book Thief and to have done some research on the benefits of weebly websites. |
