Furthermore, in the following week, I hope to have finished reading part two in The Book Thief. The Book Thief is about 500 pages long and my goal will be to have finished this book by the end of November. However this will depend on how much reading time I will have on the weekends. In conclusion, I hope to create another blog, where I will post my book reviews, by the end of next month after I decide for sure what kind of format I will be using.
Over the past week, I finished reading The Elite and wrote its review. I also talked to my mentor, who told me that the review was written correctly regarding the style. One thing I learned from writing my first review, is that it is important to include other works that you find similar to the book. This helps give other readers an idea of whether of not they will enjoy reading the book. In this case, I found The Elite similar to the TV show the "The Bachelor" and in addition, a little like The Hunger Games series. Unfortunately, I have not yet created a separate blog for my book reviews. I hope to do as soon as I can; which will probably be sometime next week. Furthermore, I started reading a new book this week. It's called The Book Thief, and it has been out for a while but my mentor really recommended it. The book is about a poor little German girl put into foster care during the Holocaust time period. So far, I've read about 83 pages and the book is fabulous. Although it is about an event that no one really like to talk about, the author focuses the story around what it's like for this young girl to grow up with Hitler as an influence in her everyday life.

Today, I finished reading the first book for my project. For those of you who don't know, I was reading a book entitled The Elite by Kiera Cass. Overall, I can say the book was nicely written with a good plot, and I have no doubt that I will be writing a positive review on it. I think the only thing that bothered me was how a lot of important details were written the last 20 pages from the end of the book. And spoiler-alert: there's a third book. I got really panicked the last few pages because I was so rapped up in the story I knew there was no way it could end the way I thought it was going to.... thank goodness, because if the story were to end the way most readers would assume (and I won't say what happens so that if you do decide to read this book I am not spoiling your reading experience), it would have been sad. Furthermore, the reading I finished today was very epic in a sense of the development of the story line.
In addition, next week I hope to create a website or blog space to post the review on The Elite. I am leaning more so towards creating another blog dedicated to only on the reviews of the books I will read. I think this will be a better approach than trying to create a complete website alone, as I don't know how to. Also, the setup in Blogger is the organization style that I want to use for my book reviews; as it organizes my posts by the latest updates and then in the months the posts were published. I also saw that Blogger also allows you to personalize your page, which would be nice as well. Finally, I will also be contacting with my mentor this weekend. I will talk about recently published books and pick out a new book to read hopefully by the end of next week; and I will let you know the title as soon as I chosen the book. As of right now, I don't have any ideas of what book I should read next, but I have gotten some suggestions from friends which I really appreciate it. In the end, my over arching goal is to have provided other teenagers reviews of books that they can read in order to read more themselves, and this week was definitely a step in the right direction towards my goal. Today, was my first real day of work. Last week I blogged about my project idea; and this week I starting reading my first book. It's entitled The Elite by Kiera Cass. It is the sequel to The Selection. I actually started reading this book earlier in September but, was unable to finish it, against my own will, due to school work. So far, I am up to page 264 and the plot seems really good. Spoiler alert: if you like the Bachelor(ette) show and the Hunger Games series, then you are going to L-O-V-E this book. Over this weekend I will continue taking notes and reading.
In addition, in my website uploads about every book I read, I plan to include the key topics, review, and some reasons why you should read that particular book. I am hoping to create my website within the next two weeks as I am almost done with my first book. I think it's going to be organized by the book's title and which review has been most recently posted. On one last note, it feels really great that friends and family are supporting this project. Just this week, I had a good friend come up to me and recommend a book that she thought would be great for my project. I think that is what I wanted my project to be all about in the end, teens getting excited about reading and reading more. It's really nice to know that the goal from the beginning is being accomplished. After thinking and tweaking for the last month, my 20 Time project is called Teens to Teens Reading Project. In my project, I will be creating a website where I post reviews and my personal thoughts on the latest teen books currently being sold. My website will be updated every time I read and review a new book. I will do this with the help of my mentor, who has worked as a bookseller for over 21 years. In doing so, my hope is to encourage other teens to read. Today, most teens do not find reading one of their favorite pastimes; there are many reasons to this, but my hope is to provide a way for teens to see that someone just like them finds time for reading. And even better as a teenager, I will include in my reviews and thoughts what I think is important. AKA: teens don't necessary want to know all the figurative language and different elements of the story that effect the overall reading experience, we want to know is the overall story a good read and then why? Furthermore, the overarching goal of my entire project is to get more teens reading and I will do this by spreading the word about my idea and website through family, friends, and hopefully Twitter.
Two specific goals of my project are to get a shelf with my books feature at my local library and have at least five book reviews posted on my website by the end of the school year. Having a display at my local library would allow other teens to see what another person their age recommends; as the opinions between adults and teens are different. I think this would further help advertise my project to the community. In addition, it would be great if I am able to have written five reviews before the end of the school year. This is a reasonable goal because I will have every Friday to read or write about my project. Therefore, next week I will begin working on these goals in order to help provide a way to get more teenagers reading. |
