After thinking and tweaking for the last month, my 20 Time project is called Teens to Teens Reading Project. In my project, I will be creating a website where I post reviews and my personal thoughts on the latest teen books currently being sold. My website will be updated every time I read and review a new book. I will do this with the help of my mentor, who has worked as a bookseller for over 21 years. In doing so, my hope is to encourage other teens to read. Today, most teens do not find reading one of their favorite pastimes; there are many reasons to this, but my hope is to provide a way for teens to see that someone just like them finds time for reading. And even better as a teenager, I will include in my reviews and thoughts what I think is important. AKA: teens don't necessary want to know all the figurative language and different elements of the story that effect the overall reading experience, we want to know is the overall story a good read and then why? Furthermore, the overarching goal of my entire project is to get more teens reading and I will do this by spreading the word about my idea and website through family, friends, and hopefully Twitter.
Two specific goals of my project are to get a shelf with my books feature at my local library and have at least five book reviews posted on my website by the end of the school year. Having a display at my local library would allow other teens to see what another person their age recommends; as the opinions between adults and teens are different. I think this would further help advertise my project to the community. In addition, it would be great if I am able to have written five reviews before the end of the school year. This is a reasonable goal because I will have every Friday to read or write about my project. Therefore, next week I will begin working on these goals in order to help provide a way to get more teenagers reading.
