The Fault In Our Stars, by John Green, is not a traditional love story. I have to say I never planned on reading this book. I already knew the general idea of what was going to happen in the end, thanks to my wonderful friends who have also read this story and fell in love it. But after once again being conned into reading this book, I can see why everyone is marveling over it. It contains a real life situation and problem in the world. Children are diagnosed and die from cancer every day. And I think John Green presents a real story that teens and families who have suffered from cancer can relate to. In addition, it was interesting to see how the characters developed throughout the novel. Although I can’t say that I have a friend who lost their sight to cancer, I can say that I see the great qualities presented in these characters also in my friends. Furthermore, I recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys star-crossed romance books and rate it a 4 out of 5 stars due to the complexity of each character and depth in the plot. I took one star away because there are some aspects in the novel that seem very far from the truth for me; like when the two newly met teenagers just decide to vacation to the Netherlands together.
*NOTE: Read the book behind the character Hazel Grace Lancaster titled This Star Won’t Go Out: The Life and Words of Esther Grace Earl whom John Green is said to have based his main character on.
