I stumbled upon "The Selection" series many moons ago when searching for a birthday present for my mom. We had been reading a lot of dystopian novels at that time and the book seemed good enough when I read the back cover. I was pleasantly surprised with the story line and instantly drawn in (as was my mother). Since then, we have read each book as Cass released then. Though the plot is a bit predictable and is very much so a direct take off the reality television show The Bachelor/Bachelorette I still found myself gobbling up each book as I read more of the series. The book does not go into details of why the people are specifically upset and doesn't divulge any information regarding their lives but rather focuses solely on the feelings and actions of Princess Eadlyn on her quest to find love and her training as the future queen. If you are looking for a nice beach or pool read and enjoy The Bachelorette TV show, I would highly recommend these books to you. But if you are looking for another dsytopian series like "Divergent", "The Hunger Games", or "Matched" I wouldn't recommend this book to you. Cass doesn't focus on the plights of this world and since the main character of "The Crown" is in fact a princess who hasn't known anything but comfort in life, the story does not explore some profound meaning and conquering of evil. Yet I cannot completely put this book down as Cass did really expand and explore Eadlyn as a character compared to the previous book "The Heir" where the princess was made out as a cold-hearted person. Therefore I appreciated the character development Cass made with not only Eadlyn but also her suitors as well. I will say that I have truly enjoyed reading these books even if they aren't for everyone and I encourage anyone how enjoys a cute romance to pick up "The Crown".
Until next time, ciao!!
NOTE: Upon further review and research I have discovered that "The Crown" is the final FULL length novel of "The Selection" series and there will be no sequel written. However, we can keep our fingers crossed and see if Cass writes and releases any short novellas based in "The Selection" world in the future!
